The Supplements I Give My Kids for Immune Support

The questionI get often around this time of year is: "what supplements should I give my kids?" and the honest answer is that I can't tell you, because I don't know what your child is low in. I didn't know what mine were low in either, until I tested.

We use Tiny Health gut microbiome testing for our kids. (USE CODE DRORGANICMOMMY) It's an at-home stool test that maps a child's gut bacteria and flags what's out of balance…low beneficial strains, overgrowths, gaps that show up as recurring illness, tummy troubles, or skin issues. The report comes back with plain-language explanations and specific suggestions.

What surprised me most: my four kids came back with meaningfully different results.

That's the whole point. A supplement that's genuinely helpful for one child can be unnecessary for another.

What we keep on hand

These are some of our favorites. The ones that stay in our cabinet through the school year. Again: check with your doctor about what's right for your child, and at what dose.

MaryRuth's Organic Methyl B12 Spray

A methylated form of B12, which some kids absorb better than standard B12. Spray form means no pills to fight about.

MaryRuth's Organic Liquid Zinc

Zinc is one of the nutrients most connected to immune function, and it's a common gap in cautious eaters. Liquid drops are easy to add to water or juice.

MaryRuth's Organic D3 + K2 Spray

Once school starts, sun exposure drops fast. We do vitamin D year-round except in summer. D3 paired with K2, which helps direct calcium where it belongs. This is the one we reach for most in the darker months.

Omegas that I like:

Omega-3 Synergy

Nordic Naturals

Carlson Cod Liver Oil (Lemon)

Omega-3s plus naturally occurring vitamins A and D. The lemon flavor is the only reason my kids will take it — and it covers several bases at once.

When someone actually gets sick

Our routine changes the moment a kid comes home with something. Two things we reach for:

Tasha Rose Victory Elixir — an organic immune-support elixir we keep stocked all winter.

Tasha Rose Elderberry Syrup— the alcohol-free version, which is what we use with the kids.

We start both at the first sign of something, alongside the boring things that matter more than any supplement: sleep, water, and actually staying home.

Cymbiotica Liposomal Vitamin C — a liposomal form, which absorbs better than standard vitamin C. This is what we add the moment someone starts feeling off.

Cymbiotica Liposomal Glutathione — glutathione is one of the body's own antioxidants, and it's what I reach for alongside the vitamin C during a longer stretch of illness.

No supplement replaces the foundation.

Sleep, real food, time outside, movement, and low stress do more for a child's immune system than anything you can buy.

Supplements fill gaps. They don't build the floor.

Start by testing so you know what your child actually needs. Then add one thing at a time — and always with your pediatrician's input.
