These are the notes I keep in my phone for parent–teacher conferences — quick reminders, questions, and things I want to track throughout the year. They help me stay organized and make sure I’m showing up prepared
Whole-child
How does my child seem emotionally during the day? Do they express joy, curiosity, and comfort?How do you help the kids navigate big feelings like frustration or sadness?
Are there moments when my child shines socially or creatively that you’ve noticed?
Are there areas of growth you see: socially, emotionally, or developmentally?
Play
What kinds of play or materials does my child naturally gravitate toward?
How do you balance structured learning with open-ended, imaginative play?
How do you nurture curiosity and intrinsic motivation rather than reward-based learning?How do you support sensory learning (through touch, smell, sound, and nature)?
Kindergarten:
How do you integrate early literacy or numeracy without rushing academics?
How do you observe readiness for more structured learning; socially, emotionally, and physically?
Do you see curiosity and initiative? Do they ask questions, wonder, or explore independently?
How do you nurture problem-solving and imagination in daily activities?
Environment/sensory
How much time do the children spend outdoors, and what kinds of activities do they do there?
