Favorite Bath Time Essentials

A calmer bath routine with fewer products (and less mold)

Bath time doesn’t need to be complicated to be calming. Over the years, I’ve learned that less really is more especially when it comes to overstimulation. A few intentional swaps have helped make bath time feel calmer for my kids.

These are the simple bath time favorites we use on repeat. And check out all my favorite items for the bath and shower on my amazon shop.

And check out some of my bath time tips if you are continuing to struggle here.

Let’s talk products:

Magnesium Flakes

I love adding magnesium flakes to the bath a few nights a week. Magnesium can support relaxation, especially before bedtime, and it’s one of the easiest ways to turn a regular bath into a calming wind-down routine.

Tip: Start with a small amount and work your way up, especially for sensitive skin.

A Mold-Resistant Bath Mat

The bath mat we use is from Dorai Home. They offer different sizes. It’s designed to dry quickly and resist mold, which matters because bath mats stay wet far longer than we realize.

Red Salt Lamp to Calm the Room

Bright overhead lights can make bath time feel chaotic. I love using a red salt lamp to soften the room and create a calmer, more grounded environment—especially during evening baths.

It’s a small change that shifts the entire mood.

Clean Bath Soaks

I rotate between a few favorites depending on the season and how everyone’s feeling:

Bath Soap We Actually Use

  • OSEA Body Wash – a favorite that I have been using since it came out

  • Everyone Soap – a great, more affordable option if you’re looking for something clean and easy for the whole family

Both work well without overwhelming the skin.

Minimal Toys

This is a big one: most bath toys get moldy, even when you try to clean them well.

We keep toys to a minimum. Honestly, a few cups are all you need. Kids still get creative, bath time stays calmer, and there’s far less moisture sitting around afterward.

A calmer bath routine doesn’t come from more products…it comes from intentional ones. Fewer items, less mold potential, and a softer environment have helped make bath time feel less like a battle in our home.
