I am NOT a teacher. I wish I could homeschool my kids but I rely on professionals to do that. Teachers are heroes! I want you to know it is ok that you are struggling, I am too.

Here are my tips for homeschool sanity:
1) Timing is everything. There is a reason college lectures are only 50 mins long. 18 year-olds have been shown they can’t focus for more than 50 minutes on a lecture!! How do you expect a 3,4,5-year-olds to sit on zoom?? And most feel the need to sit on a zoom call the entire time. A lot of schools are recording them and offering flexibility for parents & children. I personally think that under the age of 7, they should not be sitting for more than 20 mins at a time.
2) Do what works best for you and don’t compare. Get inspiration if you need or want it, but remember that sometimes inspiration can make you feel bad about yourself. Remember your children are learning so much more by being home but it is just a different kind of learning. I actually see this as the silver lining because learning is not a one size fits all program. You can learn math when you are cooking, chemistry with laundry and there is learning taking place when playing games (ie @_itslitbooks_ took post it notes and sight words and made it into a memory game).
3) Don’t stress. Your kids will continue to grow and develop. I know this is easier said than done, but find ways for self care. I really want to emphasize this because your kids can feel your anxiety. Do you want a post on how to handle your kids seeing your emotions through all of this?

Lastly, remember, do what works best for you and your family! Every child and every parent is different and has different things going on. Two of the gifts we have during all of this is TIME and FLEXIBILITY.
